Linkbar: Network Monitor

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 October 2026

Overview

Linkbar ("the app") is a macOS app developed by Dakabi LLC ("we", "us"). This page describes what data the app handles and where it goes.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not operate any server. Linkbar never sends your measurements, your network details or any usage data to us or to any third party.

The network traffic Linkbar sends

To measure your connection, Linkbar sends small probes every few seconds (every 15 seconds on battery): an ICMP echo or a TCP connection attempt to your router; a DNS query for apple.com to your internet provider's DNS servers (or, if your router answers DNS itself, a query for whoami.akamai.net through the router to find the provider's resolver); and ICMP echoes or TCP connection attempts to 1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.8 and 9.9.9.9. If you add custom targets, those hosts are probed the same way.

These probes contain no personal data. Like any network traffic, they reveal your Mac's public IP address to the servers they reach, which are operated by your internet provider, Cloudflare, Google and Quad9 under their own privacy policies.

What's stored on your Mac

  • Measurements: raw probe results for 48 hours and per-minute summaries, outages and slowdowns for 90 days, in a database inside the app's sandbox container.
  • Wi-Fi radio details (signal, noise, channel, link rate). Linkbar does not request Location access and does not read Wi-Fi network names.
  • Network identifiers for location profiles: your router's hardware (MAC) address and IP address, and names you give your networks.
  • Settings: notification choices, custom targets, and the name or company you type for reports.

Reports and CSV files are written only where you save them. Deleting the app deletes its container and everything in it.

Local Network access

macOS asks whether Linkbar may find devices on your local network. Linkbar uses this permission only to time replies from your router (and to ask it which DNS server it uses); it does not scan for or contact other devices.

Notifications

If you turn on notifications (Linkbar Pro), the app asks macOS for permission. Notifications are created on your Mac from its own measurements; nothing is sent to a push service.

Purchases

Linkbar Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment details. Apple's privacy policy applies.

What we don't use

  • Analytics or telemetry
  • Advertising networks or identifiers
  • Crash-reporting services
  • Cookies, web beacons, or tracking
  • Third-party SDKs of any kind

Children's privacy

Linkbar is a network diagnostics tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the app's data handling ever changes, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date revised.
